Match Your Clothes To Your Seasonal Skin Tone

I am sure you've had to do a double take on these ladies cos they look so much alike! Who does it better, Amy Adams or Aussie Isla Fisher? I think Adams rocks it with the contrasting lipstick, and the green of her dress is the same saturation as her hair, whereas Isla's dress reflects light and it's too shiny for my taste. I can't get over these images, its like the best lookalike photo ever.

Why am i posting this when it has absolutely nothing to do with hijab? Because lately i've really been looking into seasonal colour palettes and trying to work out my season. Im pretty sure i am a 'clear spring'..... so looking at the ladies above Adams has done all the right things in terms of her season (warm spring), but Fisher has more of a golden summer look going with her lipstick and orangey tan, so the green doesn't work as well. It still looks stunning, though!

Pavlova Recipe

Pavlova

Ingredients:

•                150ml eggwhite (approximately 4 eggs)

•                1 cup (220g) caster (superfine) sugar

•                2 tablespoons cornflour (cornstarch), sifted

•                2 teaspoons white vinegar

•                1 cup (250ml) single (pouring) cream

•                ½ cup passionfruit pulp (approximately 4 passionfruit)

•                250g strawberries, hulled and halved

Method:


Preheat oven to 150°C (300°F). Place the eggwhite in the bowl of an electric mixer and whisk until stiff peaks form. Gradually add the sugar, whisking well, until the mixture is stiff and glossy. 
  

Add the cornflour and vinegar and whisk until just combined. Shape the mixture into an 18cm round on a baking tray lined with non-stick baking paper. Reduce oven to 120°C (250°F) and bake for 1 hour 20 minutes. Turn the oven off and allow the pavlova to cool completely in the oven.

Whisk the cream until soft peaks form. Spread over the pavlova, top with passionfruit and strawberries and serve immediately.

Serves 8–10.


* You’ll know when the meringue is stiff and glossy because the mixture will have tripled in volume 
and stands up when the beaters are lifted. 


* The low heat puffs up the meringue while the long cooking time dries it out to give you a lovely crisp shell.


* Store your pavlova, undressed, in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.

Fun Fun!

Ok what was I thinking, hijab zeal? It is a beautiful word (definition: enthusiastic devotion to a cause, ideal, or goal and tireless diligence in its furtherance) and it does work well with hijab, but it's too complicated. I think hijabavlova (hijab pavlova) is much more me! I'm Australian (well I'm Turkish Australian), I can't get enough of my desserts, especially pavlova, and this is supposed to be a blog about hijab style. So I reckon HIJABAVLOVA sums it up pretty well.

Here's hoping this blog will be relaxed, a nice read, and most of all, fun! I'll probably be posting mostly about fashion styling, but the odd recipe or what not here and there wouldn't hurt, I suppose.

Colourful Bags

Lately I have been dressing in nothing but neutrals and when i do add colour it’s usually by means of a solid coloured cardigan or my scarf. So i thought it might be a good idea to add some dramatic colour and some personality to a what-some-may-call dull outfit. Whadya think? If the florals and pom pom bag’s a bit too much for you how about adding a pretty embellishment?

I really should be studying for my exam tomorrow but what better to do than hunt for beautiful flowy dresses just in time for summer, in Australia of course! The Lanvin is my personal favourite because of the pleats - they drape beautifully don’t you think?
